THE TATERS
THE
MCGUFFIN
What is
The McGuffin? Though
only a few decades old, that question still stands as one of the wonderful
mysteries that lies within this eclectic rock band. With influences from
old horror soundtracks to Radiohead and beyond. This five man versatile
band packs serious flavors without the terrible aftertaste of your radio's
pungent cookie cutter bands.
The
McGuffin is a Richmond, VA based band and have been playing in and around the
river city since late 2000. Being on the forefront of the Richmond music
scene they recently opened up for such national acts as Molly Hatchett and
Little Feat. They can regularly been seen in many of the better clubs and
nightspots around Central Virginia and up and down the East Coast.
"Mysterious...trippy,
dreamy...Sounds like the Beatles teaming up with early Smashing
Pumpkins...Sounds like Pink Floyd covering a Black Sabbath song." -
Jennifer Layton, Music Critic
"Imaginative,
poetic, intense songwriting performed by a rock band that sounds like a full
rock orchestra...They sound like a great party band, but there's also depth to
the songwriting, both musically and lyrically". - IndieMusic.com

THE TATERS
M-UNIT
The band formed as M-Unit in December 2003, from the remnants of Loosely Bound (Jones and Linden) and Sansabelt (Magoon). The original line-up also included Allan Jones on drums. While M-Unit played heavily throughout their first year, the general consensus was that the band’s name was simply awful. The addition of Dave Hess in late 2004 triggered the switch to Fabled Automatic.
The name change will be announced at the January Richmond Roots Revival show.
Fabled Automatic focuses on original music, with a smattering of revamped covers. The band draws from a diverse array of musical influences, including Prince, James Brown, the Smiths, and the Police. The sound is upbeat and hook-laden, with an emphasis on vocal harmonies, song structure, and catchy guitar riffs. Fabled Automatic will begin recording a full-length CD in February 2005, and plans on playing heavily in the Richmond area throughout the upcoming year.

SCHNITZEL
STACY
KOVIAK
The Kalamazoo, MI, native migrated to the east coast in 2002. Based out of Richmond, Va, Stacy has made a positive impression in the East coast music scene by booking steady gigs and developing a fan base that extends from Richmond and the surrounding areas to the midwest loyals who continue to expand back home. Her music has been well received as she steadily treads through the waters of the Richmond scene sharing the stage with various local bands, headlining as a solo acoustic performer in clubs and participating in a variety of area Festivals.
Stacy picked up her first guitar at eleven, and is also an accomplished classically trained musician (clarinet, percussion, and French horn.) She landed a music scholarship while studying fine art and graphic design at The University of Findlay, and was recruited to play bass guitar for the University's jazz band - adding yet another instrument to her repertoire.
Stacy spent a good portion of 2003-2004 in the studio working on her full length LP, entitled "treading bleu" in collaboration with Soundcone.com (Richmond, VA) and Flying Squirrel Studios (Petersburg, VA). With the expansion of her sound, and completion of the album ( a much anticipated artistic offering ) -it was apparent that a larger live sound was in order. She's recently teamed up with a talented group of musicians to form a unique sound that allows a whole new interpretation to her already impressive solo stage show. She now performs with a band at larger venues and special events, but continues to play shows as a solo acoustic performer as well.
