PHATBACK
Phatback is a Richmond, Virginia band that plays
an eclectic mix of covers and original material. Stylistically, the band moves
from hard rock, to blues and pop, with detours along the way encompassing
reggae, alternative country, psychedelia and R&B. Phatbacks originals
reflect these disparate influences, creating a sound that is completely
contemporary, but firmly rooted in rock tradition. Phatback consists of Renee
Bailey, lead vocals; Jim Burnette, drums and vocals; Paul Burnette, bass guitar;
Jay Dickinson, lead guitar, harmonica and vocals and Rick Montgomery, rhythm
guitar. While Phatback was formed in 2005, its roots go back to the early 90's
where earlier versions of the band played as Grape Delilah, Suburban Camouflage,
Mercy and Thin Ice. Phatback plays original songs, danceable rock and diverse
covers, by artists such as Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fleetwood Mac, Bush,
Fuel, Joan Osborne, Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead, Concrete Blonde,
Patti Smith and the Clash to name a few. A mix of distinctive voices, and a
groove oriented ensemble, create a potent musical brew that is completely modern
but firmly rooted in the classic rock of the 70s.

GUITAR
BROTHERS
Guitar Brothers was formed in 1997 as a concept band by guitarist, vocalist Jay Turner. He had been writing original songs for years and wanted to continue to play them. So he started the band as an acoustic act with the idea that whoever wanted to join him and play their original (or cover) songs for the gig could do so. Thus they would be Guitar Brothers or "Brothers of Other Mothers." Related purely in a musical sense.
This one time "Lil' Acoustic Act" has since grown into "The greatest average middle of the road mediocre local band in the world" which has since given in to the electric gods and added bass player Matt Martin in 2004. Drummer Mike Engleking
joined the group in late 2005 and lead guitarist Pete Fraunfelter
joined in early 2006.
These guys thrive on rootsy back beat music from the 60’s and 70’s. Their original music is a combination of story telling lyrics brought on from life long experiences over the melded flow of chord progressions. A song is like a picture. A snapshot in time. As long as you sing that song, that moment will live on. The title song from their debut CD "Memories worthy of a song" (2001) was one of three considered for use in a Kodak commercial in 2002.
On their website, they have dedicated a page with photos of many of the ladies who have joined them onstage as tambourine players.

WADE
REYNOLDS Wade Reynolds bought his first guitar for a dollar when he was a sophomore in high school and taught himself how to play. “It’s got to be the best dollar I ever spent,” he claims. He began writing songs a year or two later but was initially too shy to perform them.
A friend in a high school folk song club encouraged him and played with him his first time out. As a student at the University of Richmond in the early 70’s, Reynolds became a regular at U of R coffeehouses and once opened for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band at the university’s Robins Center. Other venues in the 70’s and 80’s included the Crossroads Coffeehouse in Richmond’s Fan District and the Chez Eduard wine and beer shop in Midlothian.
A full-time English teacher in Chesterfield County, Reynolds has played regularly throughout the Richmond area over the last decade. He has been featured at O’Toole’s, Baja Bean, The Texas/Wisconsin Border Café, Easy St., VCU’s Common Ground, The Brandermill Inn, U or R’s Cellar, Sunday’s, Bella Italia, The Sideline Café, and Border’s Books and Music in Fredericksburg and Richmond. More recently he has appeared at Uno’s in Chester, the Ironhorse Restaurant in Ashland, The SPCA’s Canine Café, Legend Brewing Company, the Commercial Taphouse, and the Positive Vibes Cafe.
A published writer with a completed novel ready to send to an agency, Reynolds often uses literature as the basis for some of his songs. He considers himself extremely fortunate to be able to participate in a small way on the world’s musical stage, and he is excited and enthusiastic about playing for the Richmond Roots Revival.
