THE TATERS
MOZELY
ROSE
With new-age pop and a music
industry controlled by boy-bands and teen stars, it seems that rock and rolls
place is in the past. While there still seems to be a demand for sharp-cutting
guitar riffs, harmonic vocals, and solid drum beats, its not always easy to hear
and see the music with all the fog and lights that come with a band; Mozely Rose
satisfies that demand. From Richmond, Virginia, Mozely Rose has been rockin'
large, eclectic audiences for more than six years. The bands music is a product
of its blues, country, funk, and especially rock-and-roll influences that each
member of the band has brought to the table. Seth Penick drives the bands rhythm
with a funky-rock groove that could make John Bonham drop a beer; Neal Townsend
adds funky, slap bass and orchestrates it with his powerful, harmonic rhythms
that would make Victor Wooten jealous; Alan Crist keeps busy on the guitar
cranking out vigorous, bluesy riffs that would make Allen Collins jump higher
than the Freebird Jump; Matt Nicholls adds to the band soulful lyrics and a
stellar guitar sound that reincarnates Stevie Ray Vaughn, God rest his soul.
This is a group of guys that can satisfy any taste of music through its
southern, Outlaw Rock style. Mozely Rose did what few others could do on that
Friday night. Heads went back, glasses went up, and beer went down in record
times. I saw a lot of empty glasses lining the ground around that dance floor.
Mozely Rose made them chose between their beer and the music, and as all
musicians can tell you, that's a battle that [a] band often loses. - -Drew
Kennedy, musician, 2002. Simply put, Mozely Rose is Outlaw Rock. The band
somehow pulls the audience through a time warp back to when rock-and-roll ruled,
music was raw, and it was still cool for guys to have long hair. More
importantly, Mozely Rose takes them back to when the lights and the smoke didn't
get in the way of the music's impact. So take the pop CD out of your player,
grab a beer, and throw in a Mozely Rose tune.

THE TATERS
THE
DIRTY TRUTH
What is the Dirty Truth? It ain't an ad campaign about big
tobacco backroom blunders. It ain't a political slogan about the realities of
political corruption or the brutalities of war. The Dirty Truth is a band that
hits the nail on the head and drives a spike through the tail. The Dirty Truth
is an angel on one shoulder, a devil on the other. The Dirty Truth is the comedy
that takes place between temptation and edification; the tragedy that takes
place between damnation and salvation; the reality of the duality of man, mixed
metaphors in an old pull-top PBR can; solid rhythm section and charismatic, raw,
vocal emotion; lyrical wit and comical depth, soul-food-sex-metaphors, love in a
bottle and a plate full of hatred...pass the hot sauce please; Southern
"Fusion" of funk and blues. Somebody bring me a biscuit. Amen. Damn,
these licks are tasty.

THE TATERS
ALLEN
THOMPSON
Time passes slowly for some. For Allen Thompson,
time never seems to move fast enough. Over the past two years, Allen has been
able to parlay his ability for combining poignant and personal lyrics with raw,
catchy chord progressions into two albums and countless live shows that
captivate all who are willing to listen and watch.
Allen's first release, an EP titled Highway took
the Richmond, Virginia music scene by surprise. The work done at David Lowery's
Sound of Music Recording Studio shows that Allen's blend of Soul, Country, and
Rock music holds its own with that of any seasoned artist from the area. The
release of Highway led to Allen's next project, and the beginning of an exciting
new chapter in Allen's life.
In August of 2006, production began on Allen's first full-length collection of
new studio recordings. The upcoming album, titled simply Allen Thompson, was
co-produced by Allen, Tim Lofton, and widely-acclaimed guitarist Jimmy Nalls
(Sea Level, Alex Taylor, Bobby Whitlock, Dr. John). Allen Thompson blends the
laid-back California Country of Merle Haggard with the hard-rocking Americana of
The Band and The Grateful Dead with a touch of Stax R&B and white Capricorn
Records Soul to create an album that is desperate, yet relaxed and melancholy,
yet beautiful all at once.
The sessions for the this new release were
recorded with some giants in the fields of Soul, Americana, Jam, and Bluegrass.
Jimmy Nalls was able to recruit such artists as Bonnie Bramlett, Jack Pearson,
Harry Stinson, and Dave Pomeroy to lend their talents to the sessions. Their
contributions are both unmistakable and unforgettable.
Upon listening to an Allen Thompson song, it is
immediately apparent he holds a strong knowledge of American Music. Allen is
unique, though, in that he doesn't simply rehash old tunes. Instead, he adds new
sounds to the old to create timeless songs that add to the tradition,
strengthening the roots of Americana song by song.
The future seems bright for this boy from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
As he prepares for the release of his debut album, he is gearing up for what is
sure to be an exciting chapter in the life of a man born to make music.
